Drivers who frequent University Ave. will start noticing more police in the area keeping an eye on traffic.
Sgt. Steve Shelley with Texarkana, TX Police said the department has gotten numerous speeding complaints on the stretch of University Ave. between Richmond Rd. and the Texas A&M - Texarkana campus. The city installed speed bumps, but police continued to get complaints.
Now the department is taking a more direct approach to the problem. Traffic officers have begun patroling the area to ensure drivers are sticking to the 30 mph speed limit.
Shelley says the department wants all drivers to get where they're going safely, and this will remind drivers not to speed in the area.
