Next Green Texarkana recycling event set for Feb. 9

The City of Texarkana, Arkansas' Green Texarkana initiative has resulted in the collection of 7.3 tons of recyclable materials. That's more than during any month in 2012.

Now Green Texarkana announces a new recycling event, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the parking lot at Third and Hazel streets.

Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia officially dedicated a new agricultural building on Friday.

The nearly $8 million facility is the first agriculture building constructed on the campus in more than 60 years.

Students from Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Texarkana College will lead a clean-up event in celebration of Earth Day this Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. 

Volunteers are needed! 

The focus of the clean-up will be the area near Central Mall and the new Texarkana Convention Center.  Volunteers are asked to meet at the corner of Cowhorn Creek and Kennedy Lane in the Central Mall parking lot before the 9:00 a.m.

Texarkana, TX wood-framed home destroyed in overnight fire

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) – A home in Texarkana is damaged after an overnight fire engulfed the home.

The blaze broke out around 10:30 p.m. Monday night. The wood-framed home located in the 1400 block of Elm St. was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on scene.

Texarkana Firefighters have not released many details on the fire. No injuries were reported. No word on what may have caused the fire.

The investigation is ongoing. Stay tuned for updates.

Texarkana Food Bank reschedules watermelon harvest event

Harvest Texarkana had to postpone its watermelon harvest from August 5 to Wednesday, August 10. They need volunteers to help pick watermelons at the Fulton Grass Company at 7 a.m. All watermelons harvested will go to food pantries across southwest Arkansas and Bowie County for free. The Fulton Grass Co. is located in Fulton, Arkansas just 3.5 miles from I-30, only 18 miles from Texarkana and 12 miles from Hope. From I-30, take the Fulton Exit #18. Turn south and follow the dirt road 3.5 miles to Fulton Grass Farm.

4th Annual 4-H Day coming to Four States Fair August 4

The 4th Annual Four States 4-H Day will be from 9:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 4 at the Four States Fair Ag Learning Center. All ages 9-18 are welcome.

Funding loss could impact Texarkana shelter

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) – A Texarkana, TX outreach shelter may have to forgo some of its services after it lost funding from the state.

The Randy Sams' Outreach Shelter ended up with a budget shortfall following cuts in state funding. Now the shelter is looking to private donations to help fill in the funding holes.
