The Texas University Interscholastic League announced the qualifiers for their upcoming 2013 Class 4A Swimming and Diving Championships to be held on February 22 and 23 at the Jamail University of Texas Aquatic Center, and the Texas High Tigersharks look to be well represented for the task of pursuing their first State Championship in several years.
Fresh off of his record setting performance in the 100 yd Breaststroke at the Region IV Championships, (58.69), a record held since 2004, Zach Baker will help lead the charge for the Class 4A Championship. Baker is seeded first in the state in that particular event.
Overall, Texas High secured representation in 15 of the 24 swimming and diving events to be contested. Though the times and points from all of the Class 4A schools who will be attending look to be much faster and higher than what Texas High have posted this season, Texas High has always had a reputation of going much faster and diving much crisper against the best competition in the state when the teams get on the big stage, and this time may be no exception.
In addition to Baker competing in the 100 yd Breaststroke, Nick Sehy and Chris Radomski also secured qualifying positions in individual swimming events. Walker Lambert and Calvin Lourens secured 2 spots in the Boys 1 Meter diving. Sehy will compete in both the 100 and 200 Free and Radomski will compete in the 100 yd Butterfly. Overall, the Tigershark squad qualified all 3 of the relays, those being the 200 Individual Medley, the 200 free relay, and the 400 Free Medley.
Senior and Co-Captain Amy McCoy will try to help lead the Lady Tigersharks to a great showing on the girls side of the State Championships. McCoy will compete in the 50 Free and 100 yd Free along with teammates Ashton Latham in the 100 yd back, Madeleine Pellegrin in the 100 yd Breaststroke, and Ann Marie Hilborn in Girls 1 Meter Diving. Overall, the Lady Tigersharks were able to qualify 2 of 3 relay teams for the big dance including the 200 Individual Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay.
