Texarkana, AR gets grant to fight drunk driving | Crime
Texarkana, Arkansas Police can spend more time looking for drunk drivers thanks to a recently received federal grant.The department got a traffic safety grant for $163,000 for DWI traffic enforcement. Half the grant comes from the government. The other half comes from "in kind" matching funds.
Texarkana began receiving this grant in 1991. This funding comes from the National Highway Traffic Administration (NTSHA) though the Arkansas Highway Traffic Administration administered by the Arkansas State Police Alcohol Safety Program.
When the city received the grant in the first part of 2012, they made 192 DWI/DUI arrests.
