Volunteers needed for 2014 Hunger Study in Bowie Co., SW corner of AR | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Harvest Texarkana Regional Food Bank continues to search for volunteers to help with the upcoming 2014 Hunger Study. The food bank needs folks to help interview hundreds of people in need throughout Bowie County and the southwest corner of Arkansas.
Volunteers will be trained by the Food Bank on how to conduct the Hunger Study with the use of tablets beginning in the month of April. Study results will be used to provide local and national statistics on how many people are hungry and the types of daily choices families need to make, such as whether to spend money on food, electricity, or medical care. The data collected will be part of a nationwide study that will be used for hunger education, advocacy, and public policy throughout the country.
Harvest Texarkana needs about 20 volunteers (18 or older) to complete the Hunger Study. Volunteers are needed to help survey clients in locations across the SW Arkansas region. Those participating will be able to indicate their preference on which days of the week times they are available to help. The study begins in mid-April and is expected to continue through August. There is a particular need for bilingual volunteers and those who live in areas outside of the immediate Texarkana region.
Interested volunteers should contact Harvest Texarkana Executive Director Jill Whittington at 870-774-1398 or HIAvolunteers@cableone.net for more information or to become part of the hunger study team.
