The Texarkana, AR Police Department recently named Det. Tye Whatley as the 2012 Investigator of the year.

Det. Whatley’s selection was the result of his nomination by his peers which is then weighed against other nominations and a selection made by an awards committee.

Cited in Det. Whatley’s selection was his role in three major criminal investigations during 2012.

*In February, Det. Whatley unraveled a serious of residential and vehicle burglaries committed by a newly formed gang who he identified as the “Head Azz Nation (Boys)”.
*In August Det. Whatley investigated and arrested three adult males who attempted to meet and engage in sexual relations with a 14 year old female.
*In October Det. Whatley was assigned to the re-activated gang unit to investigate and arrest all the “Head Azz Nation (Boys)” involved in the shooting incident at a local apartment complex where a 14 year old female was struck with a stray bullet. During that investigation other crimes were discovered and numerous arrests were the result of the investigation.

Det. Whatley was also cited for his overall excellence, hard work and determination in maintaining a clearance rate almost double the national average for property crimes. Det. Whatley is permanently assigned to the Property Crimes section of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Det. Whatley’s family was in attendance at the presentation.
