Former Texarkana, TX Mayor James Bramlett and the city's Parks and Recreation Department will host the 14th Annual Bramlett Beans & Cornbread Community Fundraiser from 11 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, at the Southwest Center.
The cost for lunch, which includes tea, coffee, and dessert, is only $5.00 per person or six non-perishable food items. Suggested non-perishable items include:
- Canned goods: soups, vegetables, fruits, stews, tuna, canned chicken, etc.
- Packaged goods: rice, macaroni, pasta & sauces, instant potatoes, instant oatmeal, grits, cereals, toaster pastries, snack cakes
- Necessities: flour, sugar, cornmeal
- Assorted: dry beans, crackers, cookies, candy, peanut butter, pudding, gelatin
“Money and food items donated at the lunch go toward food baskets for truly needy families in the Texarkana area – a coordinated effort by Texarkana Water Utilities and the Cities of Texarkana, Texas and Texarkana, Arkansas,” former Mayor Bramlett explained. “We need everyone to come out and enjoy this great food for a great cause!”
Starbucks is hosting a toy drive to assist with the Bramlett Beans & Cornbread fundraiser. Citizens can bring a new, unwrapped toy or book to Starbucks now through December 12th.
In addition, there will be a booth where cash donations may also be made to the annual “Shop with a Cop/Firefighter” event which will be held on December 11, 2012. The goal for 2012 is to raise funds to give 75 area children a $100 shopping spree at the local Target store. “Our dedicated public safety officers are working hard to raise at least $7,500 in support of this very worthy project,” Bramlett commented. “We are thrilled to include them in the Bramlett Beans & Cornbread event in the hope that they will exceed their goal and be able to provide a holiday shopping experience for even more deserving children.”
